Who’s ready for a Vegetable Challenge?! Next Monday, we are starting a two week challenge where all participants will try and eat their recommended daily servings of vegetables. The challenge is FREE so there is no reason we shouldn’t all participate. We will keep track of our daily portions on a board at the gym for all to see. This week will post articles and cooking tips to help you during the challenge.
Challenge Details:
Men eat 6 servings a day
Women eat 4 servings a day
Serving = Handful of veggies
Place a GREEN sticker on each day you eat your recommended servings

How long have you been doing CrossFit Patty?  What brought you through our doors and do you remember your thoughts and feelings about it all when you were starting out?
I believe this summer is my third year of doing Crossfit.  My sister and her husband had been encouraging me to try it and I finally came with them one weekend.  I think it was Memorial Day Weekend so I got my butt kicked!!  (It’s possible I threw up that day too).  I signed up shortly after.  One of my first thoughts after I started coming was “How can I be this sore after only a few days of foundations!?” I also remember wondering if I would ever be able to do some of the movements I saw the other ladies doing.

What movement or type of WOD did you used to hate but now you like?  Why?
Well I used to hate the Squat Snatch because I was so bad at it and when I did manage to get a rep, it was ugly.  One day I saw a video of Whitney doing one posted on the Apollo Facebook page.  She nailed it and she looked soooo good!!!!  I was inspired!  I have been working on it since then and it’s definitely growing on me.

Where are you from originally and how long have you been in Vegas?
I was born in El Salvador.  I moved to the United States (California) when I was four and then to Las Vegas in 1996.

What do you like to do for fun when you aren’t killing it at Apollo?
For fun I love, love, love hanging out and doing things with my two boys (Chris and Matthew) and lately I have also been going out and dancing Salsa and learning how to line-dance with friends.

Ok.  It’s time for the real scoop.  We want all the dirt.  Miss Sunshine (Diana) is your sister.  She has to have a dark side.  No way she’s that happy, kind and wonderful all the time.  SPILL!!   
LOL!!! The only thing that comes to mind that will get you on her bad side is if you interrupt her sleep.  It’s like in the Cave of Wonders scene from the Disney Movie Aladdin “Who disturbs my slumber!!!!????”  😨 But seriously she is one of the kindest, funniest, most generous persons I know. I love her so much!

You’ve been to other countries and have family there.  You told me once, “I love America.”  Would you expound on that thought?  I think most of us take this great country of ours for granted.
Yes I love the USA!  My family moved here because of the civil war and violence in our country.  We found refuge here and rebuilt our lives through hard work.  I am so thankful to this country for giving us that opportunity and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t feel that way.

What do you think would be a great name for a WOD and why?
Pattycakes of course!  It has a nice ring to it, plus I really want a workout that has my name on it 😜
